Robert “Bob” James Miller, 89, Joplin, MO, passed into eternal rest November 21, 2018 at his home in Joplin surrounded by his family.
Robert James Miller was born September 24, 1929 in Little River, KS, the son of Eskridge (Eck) and Bessie (Spriggs) Miller. Bob graduated from Little River High School in 1947. He attended Hutchison Junior College then graduated from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, KS with a bachelors degree in teaching. He took additional courses in education from Drury University, Springfield, MO, and Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. Bob then attended Ozark Bible College when he began his preaching career. Bob was a US Army Veteran serving in Japan 1951-1953.
Bob was baptized in 1955 after he married Velma Donna Gardner July 29, 1954 in Miller, MO. Bob taught Middle School and Junior High School from 1953-1973 where he also coached football and basketball. He taught school in Stockton, KS, Plainville, KS, Eldorado, KS, Mount Vernon, MO, and Independence, KS. His first ministry was at Smithfield Christian Church from 1972-1975. Bob had additional ministries for the next twenty years at Ladoga Christian Children’s Home in Ladoga, IN; Seneca Christian Church, Seneca, MO; Pawnee Rock Christian Church, Pawnee Rock, KS; Berea Christian Church, Nevada, MO; Antioch Christian Church, Poke, MO; Wheatland Christian Church, Wheatland, MO; Christ’s Church of Perseverance, Joplin, MO, and his final ministry was at High Street Christian Church, Neosho, MO.
Survivors include his wife Donna Miller, Joplin, MO; his children, Rodney Miller (Laurel,) Mount Juliet, TN; Debbie Jacobson (Mark,) Ash Grove, MO; Jim Miller (Jacqueline,) Overland Park, KS; Beckie Campbell (Tim,) Carl Junction, MO; Kathy Tackett (Howard,) Webb City, MO, and Katy Brister (Agdon,) Joplin, MO; 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Avis Riedel and one brother, Dee Miller.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Christ’s Church Of Perseverance, Joplin, MO. Funeral services will be held following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Gerald Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Mark Jacobson, Tim Campbell, Howard Tackett, Agdon Brister, Jason Miller, and Caleb Miller.
Burial will be in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, MO, Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
