Melvin Leon Friend

Melvin Leon Friend, affectionately known by family and friends as "Todd" and by his CB radio handle "Meldavino," passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, in Wyandotte, Oklahoma, at the age of 88.

Born on January 21, 1938, in Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Melvin spent nearly his entire life in the community he proudly called home. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and dedicated his life to cattle farming. He spent his days working the land, tending to his livestock, and embracing the simple, honest lifestyle he loved.

When he wasn't caring for his livestock, Melvin could often be found at the Bunker visiting and spending time with his friends. In his early years, he loved horseback riding, hunting, and spending time on the water running trot lines for catfish. Few things brought him more excitement than pulling a massive catfish from the river, especially one nearing 100 pounds. Those adventures became treasured stories shared with family and friends over the years.

Melvin was a faithful attendee of Seneca Assembly of God. He will be remembered for his warm smile, homemade ice cream, fish fry gatherings, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He had a way of making people feel welcome with a simple conversation. Whether family, friend, or stranger, Melvin believed in treating people with respect and compassion, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Friend and Ercell (Culp) Friend; his sister Leveta Faye Friend; and his brother, Robert Friend.

He is survived by his children, Mike Friend and his wife Laura, Troy Friend and his wife Kathy, and Pete Griggs and his wife Amie; his grandchildren, Shane Friend, Trace Friend, Abby Friend, and Samantha Griggs; and his great-grandchildren, Kent Friend and Milo Friend; his brother, Donnie Friend; He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, Wednesday, August 12th at the Seneca Assembly of God.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00am with Denny Sikes officiating.

The body will be taken for cremation following the services under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlcome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.
