Janie Hopkins, 75, Miami, OK passed into eternal rest August 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
Janie Hughes was born May 4, 1948 in Miami, OK to Clarence Fay and Mary Jane (Roope) Hughes.
She graduated from Seneca High School in 1966.
Janie Hughes married Steve Hopkins March 9, 1978 in Miami, OK and he survives. They have been members of First Baptist church in Grove, OK for six years. Together they have 4 children; Kim Benton, and husband Larry from Fairland, OK, Ritchie Allen from Kansas City, MO, Cassie Durham and husband Tony from Commerce OK, and Amy Williams and her husband Brett from Inola, OK.
She was "MawMaw" to 9 Grandchildren; Colby Roof and wife Megan Coweta, OK., A.J. Roof and wife Sloan Miami, OK, Mikah Arizpe Miami, OK, Felicia Dunbar and husband Ryan Miami, OK, Grant Laue Miami, OK , Rhyane Hallett Neosho, MO, Ethan Durham Commerce, OK, Avery Durham Commerce, OK, Jack Williams Inola, OK and Neveah Glass Fairland, OK. She had 3 Great Grandchildren; Kyson Roof Miami OK., Kashton Arizpe Miami, OK, and S.J. Dunbar Miami, OK. She has two more great grandchildren on the way.
Janie lived in the Miami area most of her life. She worked as a Food Coordinator for Fairland and Commerce Public School Districts. She retired 10 years ago and enjoyed traveling and time with family. Janie enjoyed teaching women's Bible studies, singing in the church choir, going out to eat with friends and cruises with her sisters . Her greatest pleasure in life was her grandchildren. She was the "MawMaw" everybody always wanted as their own because she would do anything for her Grands!! Her home became the hangout for many kids over the years because at "MawMaw's house" there was unlimited amounts of food, fun and love. As soon as you walked in the front door you were treated like family and she never turned any kids away!!
She was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence Fay and Mary Jane Hughes, siblings: Barbara Pryor, B.K. Keys and Betty Thulin. And her nephew Justin May.
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 7pm, Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, August 18, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Grove, OK with Pastor Jim Pasley Officiating. Burial will be in the Seneca Cemetery with A.J. Roof, Larry Benton, Tony Durham, Ritchie Allen, Ryan Dunbar and Brent White serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers Colby Roof, Ben Simpson, Justin May and Mike Thulin.
