He and Marilyn owned Pioneer Homes, Neosho for 10 years. Most recently, since 2010, Bud has been consiglieri for Superior Steel Sales where he was referred to as 'Bulldog Bud" by his boss and good friend, Matt Bales.

Bud married Marilyn McElroy on June 16, 1962, at the Reed family log house in southeast Texas. Marilyn got to go be with Jesus on June 14, 2021. Their oldest daughter, Kathleen, proceeded them in 1981.
